I am just now gaining consciousness from the big wave that pummelled me last Friday... didn't even realize I hadn't blogged... We made it back home, but I'm still moving up and down with the waves when I close my eyes or dream.... (it's wack). Thanks to our families for alowing us the chance to surf it up.... I still can't believe we got to hit the coast etc. That was dope!
Jordan -- did you get away with the rest of the un-eaten beef jerky?!!

the ocean 2, the strebecks 0
Okay, so here's a little bit of an update on brothers trip 08... No one has killed anyone yet (though I have had to be restrained from harming Ryan on more than one occasion, and Layne, Ryan, and Jordan have all received the Sid look...) and we're having a fantastic time... but....
But the ocean is dominating us. We're getting absolutely owned by the ravaging waves of Newport Beach. Absolutely owned. Not a single one of us have escaped from our first two days in the ocean without some serious soreness. We got here yesterday afternoon and hopped right in and got thorougly thrashed by the waves... Needless to say, we all slept like babies last night...
And today, we got pummeled again... We mainly boogie boarded today, and all got sucked under or trashed at some point. We also tried some skim boarding but as it turns out, I'm super athletic and nearly killed myself doing the awesomeness that is skim boarding.
OK so that's the bad news, but here's the good:
1) We're having buckets and buckets of fun. Turbo amounts of fun. So much fun we don't know what to do with our surplus fun. I think this is the feeling that all my Econ profs were talking about when they talked about the ever-mystical "Utility".
2) The beef jerky we got at Klemke's meatlocker in Slaton, TX is a big hit.
3) We've all seen Sid-Vicious become a Cali model overnight... he's rocking some serious Billabong Boardshort-sporting, O'Neill shirt wearing cool dude... Seriously, you should see him... hot pink board shorts, designer tees, the whole nine yards... He's way cooler than Ryan, cooler than I, about as cool as Brent, and almost as cool as Joseph. (EDIT: I was just reminded that Layne's athletic career is over, so he is now also cooler than Laynie)
4) We got to see some Dolphins.
5) Ryan has already skinny dipped.
6) We've had some pretty good food around here.
7) We have walkie talkies.
8) Our hotel room only has one king size bed, so we're getting to cuddle a little bit.
9) Our hotel is about 300 yards from the beach, which is sweetawesome.
10) SuperSid has spent like 6 minutes on the cell phone.
11) Layne got a tattoo. OK not really. But we are the only 5 people here without them.
12) That's all I can think of. But we're really having a lot of fun.
OK, that's all for now, we're trying to recuperate from our crazy day at the beach. I think Sid is in better shape than all of us, which is just dumb. We need to get in better shape next time we come do Battle with Mother Nature.
We miss all of the ladies in our lives, and Athan and Avery too!

underway
After Layne's semi-pro baloncesto career came to a close, we embarked on the latest edition of the brothers trip. Some late night swimming (thanks to Layne and Brent for modifying the sliding glass door in the hotel's weight room - granting us passage into the pool after hours) prepared us further for the physical and psychological demands of the trip.
